Notice of a Casual Vacancy for a Parish Councillor

The required notice to North Kesteven District Council informing them of a casual vacancy on this Council has now expired and no election has been called for; they have informed this Parish Council that they may apply the Parish Councils Co-option Policy Procedure to recruit a New Member to the Council.

Would anyone interested in fulfilling this role who complies with the below criteria contact the Clerk/Proper Officer: John F Money or download the Application Form from the Elections & Co-option Policy contained on the Councils Website and return it by email of to the Council Offices at 21a Main Street Metheringham Lincoln LN4 3DZ.

QUALIFICATIONS TO BE A PARISH COUNCILLOR AND TERM OF OFFICE Qualifications:

 A person is qualified to be elected/co-opted if they meet the requirements under the Representation of the People Regulations on the day of their nomination/co-option, namely being:

• at least 18 years of age

• a British citizen, a qualifying Commonwealth citizen, or national of an EU member state

In addition, the person must meet at least one of the following criteria:

1) on the relevant day and thereafter they continue to be on the electoral register for the parish;

2) during the whole of the 12 months before that day they have occupied as owner or tenant land or other premises in the parish;

3) during the whole of the 12 months before that day and the day of the election their main or only place of work has been in the parish;

4) during the whole of the 12 months before that day and the day of the election they have resided in the parish or within 3 miles/4.8 kilometres of the boundary. Except for qualification (1), these qualifications then continue for the full term of office, until the next ordinary elections.
